This abandoned bridge crosses the Fox River Chute in Appleton.
Built in 1937, the bridge consists of six I-Beam spans, approached by a pair of trestle spans on either side. The bridge rests on concrete and wooden substructure.
Like many bridges in Wisconsin, the bridge blends in well to its surroundings, normally covered in thick foliage.
The bridge likely hasn't seen a train since the early 1990's, when the paper mill it served was demolished.
As of 2018, the bridge along with two others in Appleton will be given to the city by Canadian National Railway, in exchange for closing two crossings of the railroads choice.
Overall, the bridge remains good condition. The bridge will see trail development in the coming years.
The author has ranked this bridge as being locally significant, due to the common design. The photo above is an overview The bridge can be accessed from nearby trails.
